Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Ayebo, famously known as Yemi My Lover, has called out music star Olamide for allegedly ignoring his phone calls after the artist mentioned his name in a song.

Ayebo made the claim in a video that surfaced on social media on Friday, in which he responded to a question about whether he had ever received any form of compensation or recognition from artists and skit makers who use his popular nickname in their content.

The actor, who rose to fame in the late 90s for his romantic Yoruba movies, said he got excited the first time he heard Olamide use his name in a song. However, things took a different turn when efforts to reach the singer failed.

According to him, despite reaching out through Fuji legend Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, the “Melo Melo” crooner allegedly refused to return his calls or respond to his messages.

“Olamide was the first to use my name in his song, and I was so happy. My name is blessed by God, that’s why both Davido, Olamide and others including skit makers are using it,” Ayebo said.

He narrated how Pasuma asked if Olamide had ‘settled’ him for using his name. When he said no, the Fuji star immediately dialled Olamide, who spoke briefly with Yemi and asked him to get his contact number through Pasuma.

“I called Olamide for more than six months, he didn’t pick up my calls, I messaged him and he didn’t reply,” the actor added.

Yemi My Lover also admitted that while he hasn’t received any monetary reward, the use of his name by celebrities has helped revive public interest in his brand.

The video has stirred mixed reactions online, with many fans urging Olamide to respond, while others questioned whether celebrities owe payment for name drops in songs or skits.
