The Federal Government has said the ongoing N445 billion Trans-Saharan Superhighway will be a game-changer for Nigeria’s regional integration drive, connecting Calabar to Abuja and unlocking vast economic opportunities across the sub-region.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Friday while leading a Federal Government delegation to inspect the 118-kilometre Calabar–Ebonyi section of the project.

“The Trans-Saharan Superhighway is conceived to boost regional integration and unlock economic opportunities across the sub-region,” Idris said.

He described it as one of the signature infrastructure projects under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister said the highway’s 700-metre, 12-span bridge would provide a lasting solution to decades-long flooding in the N’dibe Beach area, restoring access for several cut-off communities.

“For the first time, Ebonyi State is hosting multiple major Federal Government projects simultaneously, a testament to the administration’s commitment to equitable development,” he noted.

Idris urged contractors to uphold quality and expedite delivery. He assured Nigerians that the Tinubu administration is focused on infrastructure that “tangibly improves lives and livelihoods across the country.”

Being constructed by Infouest Nigeria Limited, the rigid concrete-paved superhighway will connect Calabar through Ebonyi, Benue, and Nasarawa to Abuja, positioning it as a vital trade and transport corridor in West and Central Africa.
