The Delta State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Chinedu Eze while allegedly attempting to sell a stolen Mercedes-Benz GLK (registration number NZM 10 AP) at a parking lot on Former Deputy Road, Asaba.

Eze was arrested on August 5 at about 5:40 p.m. after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of B Division Asaba, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Edewor Akponegware, received a report about a suspected stolen vehicle being offered for sale. The DPO led operatives of the division’s Crime Branch to the location, where the suspect claimed ownership of the vehicle while negotiating with a prospective buyer.

Investigations revealed that the SUV was first registered in April 2023 and again in 2025. Police contacted the original owner, who disclosed that the vehicle had been snatched at gunpoint in April 2023 at Abakpa, Enugu State, during which he was shot by suspected armed robbers.

In a separate incident, police operatives on August 4 at about 4:30 p.m. responded to a distress call about armed robbery activities along Chelsea Street, Ogwashi-Ukwu. The DPO of Ogwashi-Ukwu Division, Okoyomon Israel, mobilised the Anti-Crime Squad and local vigilantes to the scene.

Two suspects, 22-year-old Thywill Selvin of Poly Road, Ogwashi-Ukwu, and 32-year-old Guntim Bako of Kwale Junction, were arrested after attempting to flee on sighting the operatives.

Recovered items include one pump-action rifle with one live cartridge, one Beretta pistol with six rounds of ammunition, three assault rifle rounds, one Daylong motorcycle (registration number SAP 369 VK), one Qlink motorcycle (registration number URM 750 QV), 25 mobile phones, four laptops, one tablet, one PS4 game console, a home theatre set, two Zealot music players, five bags of clothes and other valuables. Several robbery victims have positively identified their belongings.

Commissioner of Police Abaniwonda Olufemi reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, commending the swift response of operatives and attributing the successes to timely public information.

He assured that the command will sustain aggressive, intelligence-led operations to rid the state of criminals and urged residents to report suspicious persons or activities promptly, noting that early reporting is key to preventing crime.
