The Munga Dosso farming community in Karim Lamido Local Government of Taraba State has refuted allegations linking its members to the killing of a Fulani herder and several cows, describing the claims as baseless and inflammatory.
In a statement issued yesterday and signed by the community’s secretary, Burkar Robert, the group dismissed the accusations as a calculated attempt to undermine ongoing peace efforts initiated by the state government.
“The Munga Dosso community vehemently rejects and condemns in the strongest possible terms the baseless allegations that we were involved in the recent killing of a Fulani man and his cows,” the statement read.
The community emphasised that the report, which was published in a local media outlet, misrepresented the facts and could incite further tension between farmers and herders in the area.
Robert stressed that Governor Agbu Kefas’ peace initiative had led to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) among Munga Dosso, Bandawa, Jenjo communities, and Fulani representatives, adding that investigations have shown the perpetrators of the incident were not from Munga Dosso.
“It is unjust and misleading to label the entire Munga Dosso community as responsible for this incident,” he said.
“These malicious claims are a blatant attempt to destabilise the peace and harmony painstakingly built under the leadership of Governor Kefas.”
He also raised concerns over the safety of lives and property in the community, urging the government and security agencies to provide adequate protection and ensure the security of residents.
“The lives of our people, their property, and farms are under threat,” Robert said. “We call on the authorities to come to our aid and prevent a breakdown of law and order.”
The community warned against attempts to stoke communal animosity and reiterated its commitment to peace and coexistence with all groups.
