President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the D’Tigress on their historic win of their fifth consecutive Afrobasket title on Sunday.
D’Tigress triumphed 78-64 over their opponent, Mali, to claim the coveted title.
In a post shared on his X, Tinubu hailed D’Tigress for making Mission V possible, and lauded coach Rena Wakama for leading the girls to their seventh title
”You did it, girls! Superb performance to become 5x consecutive Champions of Africa and seventh overall,” Tinubu said.
“Well done, Coach Rena and the team., You have made Nigeria proud. I am expecting you all, along with the trophy., #MissionV – Done & Dusted.”
Mali demonstrated their determination to end Nigeria’s winning streak, drawing the first blood by winning the first quarter 26-21.
D’Tigress dug deeper into their technical books of tricks to rally back in the second quarter with a 20-15 win.
It was Nigeria all the way as D’Tigress outdunked Mali with a 20-15 win to extend their historic dominance and inch closer to another title.
With their eyes on the prize, the Nigerian girls wrapped up the game with a 17-8 win against their West African neighbours.
