Niger State Governor, Muhammad Umaru Bago, has restated the state’s commitment to the security, welfare, and well-being of the corps members deployed to the state.

Bago gave the assurance during the opening/swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream One corps members, held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Paiko, in Paikoro Local Council of the state, on Saturday, August 1, 2025.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development, Alhaji Ibrahim Yahaya Gulbinboka, observed that Niger is peaceful, and its people are peace-loving and accommodating, with various opportunities in agriculture to boost food supply in Nigeria.

Umar Bago advised the corps members to be disciplined and obey all the camp rules and regulations that are in place for their safety and well-being.

Earlier, the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, hinted that the management of NYSC has made adequate preparations at the orientation camp for the corps members, assuring that the state Coordinator and her team are also on top of everything.

General Nafiu disclosed that the Niger State Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to improve the condition of the camp to make it conducive for corps members, urging them to manage the situation at the camp, saying that the next stream and subsequent batches would meet a better camp.

He said, “The Niger State Government has worked out the necessary modalities to build a permanent orientation camp here in Paiko for NYSC to enjoy in Niger State.

“Let your minds be at rest; you are here. Make the most of your time in Niger State. Be happy, integrate smoothly into society, learn and appreciate the culture, value the people, and be determined to give back to the community. Nigeria belongs to all of us, and you should be committed to doing your best to contribute to this country better,” Nafiu noted.

In her keynote address, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Niger State, Mrs. Martina Shauibu Ibrahim, called on corps members to distance themselves from cultism, drug abuse and other social vices.

Martina also cautioned the corps members to avoid using social media to spread fake news, fuel hatred, and engage in other negative activities.

She said, “You are strongly advised to be security conscious at all times and report any suspicious characters or activities around you to the appropriate authorities/

“The orientation course marks the beginning of your journey as members of the National Youth Service Corps. It serves as a platform to instil in you the core principles and objectives of the scheme. The NYSC has made provisions for your intellectual and physical development through various lectures and physical activity drills.”

Martina had appealed to stakeholders to render support towards the success of all NYSC programmes, which are solely targeted at community development and empowerment.

The swearing-in of prospective corps members was performed by the Chief Judge of Niger State, Hon. Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik, represented by Justice Mohammed Mohammed.
