Nigerian Afrofusion singer, Olayemi Fido Adeola, popularly known as Fido, has released his debut extended play, Olayemi, a project he says marks the beginning of a more personal journey in his career.
The eight-track body of work, which became available on all streaming platforms on Friday, blends modern Afrobeats with the storytelling spirit of Nigerian youth, touching on themes of identity, purpose, and resilience.
Speaking on the EP, the Awolowo crooner said using his real name for the project was intentional.
“OLAYEMI is my actual name, and it felt right to start my journey with something personal. This EP is the beginning for me. With this EP, I want people to understand that Afrobeats can still have new flavors and everyone can still enjoy good music on a spiritual level because my music is spiritual. This project makes me feel excited, for the levels I’m unlocking,” he said.
Fido first rose to prominence in August 2024 with “Awolowo”, a street anthem that peaked at number one on Nigeria’s Spotify Top 50.
His follow-up single, “Joy Is Coming”, became one of the country’s biggest hits of 2025, topping the Official Top 100 for six consecutive weeks and amassing over 100 million streams across platforms.
The new EP also features Money Moves, another track that has gained traction among fans for its catchy rhythm and motivational message.
Born and raised in Matogun, Ogun State, Fido started as a backup singer in a Foursquare Gospel Church choir. His music is rooted in personal experiences, combining pain, pride, and perseverance in a style that resonates beyond Nigeria’s borders.
With Olayemi, the singer aims to cement his place as one of Afrobeats’ most promising voices and a leader in a new wave of Nigerian storytellers.
