The First Ladies of Zamfara and Adamawa states, Haj. Huriyya Dauda Lawal and Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Fintiri, alongside prominent philanthropist Amb. Gift Emmanuel, have been named among the leading honourees for the 2025 Nigerian Humanitarian Awards.

Organised by the Humanitarian Achievement and Outreach Foundation, the annual event recognises individuals and organisations making significant contributions to humanitarian development across Nigeria. This year’s edition is scheduled to be held on Friday, 22 August 2025, at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja.

Haj. Huriyya Dauda Lawal will be honoured with the “First Lady of the Year (Girl-Child Support & Community Development)” award. Her selection follows widespread commendation for her consistent efforts in championing girl-child education, rural empowerment, and community-based development in Zamfara State. Her initiatives, particularly in Northern Nigeria’s underserved areas, have reached hundreds of communities and helped shape educational and economic opportunities for girls and women.

Her Adamawa State counterpart, Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Fintiri, will receive the award for “First Lady of the Year (Healthcare & Grassroots Empowerment)”, recognising her leadership in healthcare delivery, maternal health advocacy, and support for vulnerable populations. Her work in reproductive health and rural outreach has provided lifelines for many low-income families across the state.

Amb. Gift Emmanuel, Managing Director of the Promiseland Foundation, has been named “Humanitarian Philanthropist of the Year”. Through his foundation, Emmanuel has led a number of nationwide interventions in health, education, and emergency support, offering scholarships, facilitating hospital access, and responding to crises in marginalised communities.

According to organisers, this year’s awards spotlight the role of both public officials and private citizens in advancing the humanitarian landscape of the country.

As the event date approaches, expectations are high for a gathering that will bring together changemakers, policy influencers, and civil society leaders to celebrate humanitarian excellence and renew calls for inclusive, people-driven development.
