Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered a full-scale investigation into the alleged involvement of the state’s Commissioner for Transport, Ibrahim Namadi, in the controversial bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Dan Wawu.
The directive followed widespread public outrage after official documents surfaced indicating the Commissioner acted as a surety for the release of the suspected drug trafficker.
Dan Wawu was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) before a Federal High Court sitting in Kano on charges of drug peddling and related offences. Although the Commissioner has since withdrawn his suretyship, the public continues to question his integrity and moral standing over his initial involvement in the criminal proceedings.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the government announced the constitution of a seven-member panel to probe the matter.
The panel, chaired by Barrister Aminu Hussain, who is also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Justice and Constitutional Matters, is tasked with uncovering the circumstances surrounding the case and recommending appropriate action.
Other members of the panel include Barr. Hamza Haladu; Barr. Hamza Nuhu Dantani; Abdullahi Mahmoud Umar; Major General Sani Muhammad (Rtd); Comrade Kabiru Said Dakata; and Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota, who will serve as Secretary.
Yusuf expressed deep concern over the allegations, reiterating his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on drug abuse and other social vices.
He assured the public that the matter would be treated with urgency and transparency.
