Security operatives in Kaduna have foiled a kidnapping attempt by bandits, resulting in the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of arms and ammunition.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Kaduna State Police Command said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to crack down on crime across the state. “On 22nd of February 2025 at about 1253hrs, a resident of Ungwan Ninzom, Jagindi Tasha Village, in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters for Kafanchan that unknown persons had criminally trespassed into his residence and kidnapped his son, one Hussaini Ibrahim, to an unknown destination,” said police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan.

Upon receipt of the distress call, a team of police operatives was mobilized and deployed to the scene. The suspects were pursued but initially evaded arrest.

“In a follow-up development, on the 24th of February 2025, the victim, Hussaini Ibrahim, was successfully rescued from a nearby bush. He was found with a gunshot wound on his leg, inflicted by the kidnappers,” Hassan said. “The victim was immediately rescued and rushed to a nearby clinic for medical attention and later reunited with his family.”

Four suspects were arrested in connection with the incident: Umar Yusuf Jabiri, 30, of Jagindi Tasha; Buhari Muhammad, a.k.a. ‘General,’ 31, of Bayya Village; Ahmadu Nasiru, 51, of Gidan Waya; and Zakari Saleh, 50, also of Gidan Waya. Recovered items included one English-type AK-47 rifle and three fabricated AK-47 rifles.

“Investigation is ongoing to get other participants criminal arrested and all will soon be prosecuted to face the wrath of the law,” Hassan added.

In a separate operation on July 23, 2025, detectives led by CSP Sani Zuntu of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit intercepted a suspicious waybill in Kaduna following a tip-off. “The consignment, transported from Jos and heading to Gusau, Zamfara State, contained a fabricated AK-47 rifle concealed in a sack. The operatives followed up and arrested two suspects in Gusau who had arrived to receive the illegal firearm,” Hassan explained.

The suspects were identified as Abdulmumin Sani and Naziru Musa. “Suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, commended the operatives’ professionalism and courage. “Criminals have no hiding places in the state,” Muhammad said, while expressing appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetekun, for his continuous support.
