The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South West zone has stated that the party has no pact with the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, regarding support for his second-term election.

This was just as the party boasted that it would form the next government in Ekiti in 2026, urging the governor to prepare his handover note.

Recall that a top leader of the PDP in the state and former governor, Ayodele Fayose, and his followers had consistently rooted for Oyebanji’s re-election, saying the performance of the governor justified their decision.

Speaking in Ikere-Ekiti at the inauguration of Dr Wole Oluyede’s gubernatorial campaign team, Chief Sanya Atofarati, the PDP Southwest Publicity Secretary, stated that the party is not involved in any commitment with Oyebanji.

He said, “Everyone has the right to speak, but no one should speak on behalf of the PDP without proper authority. We want to make it clear that we are not affiliated with the APC, and there is no connection between light and darkness.

“Governor Biodun Oyebanji should begin to prepare to vacate office, as there is no more space for him in the government house.

“If we remove the developmental projects executed by the PDP in Ekiti State, one would see that the state would still be in a deplorable condition, almost like being lost in the wilderness.

“Democracy is supposed to be a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, not a government for oneself, one’s family, or close allies.”

Others who spoke in the same vein at the event, including Mr Clement Faboyede, Ondo State PDP Chieftain and Chairman, Forum of National Ex Officio, Benson Amuwa, Ondo State PDP Stalwart and Southwest Zonal Organising Secretary and former Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Kolawole Oluwawole, said that the PDP would present its candidate for the 2026 governorship poll.

They lauded Oluyede for making himself available to lead the noble struggle to reclaim Ekiti from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.

They said the party would strive to ensure that Oluyede eventually emerged as the party’s consensus candidate, going by his track record.

The event, which witnessed a gathering of scores of PDP members, was organised to mark the formal inauguration of the 10,000 campaign committee members for Oluyede.
