The Policy Innovation Centre (PIC), an initiative of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG), has commended the Lagos State Government for championing the creation of inclusive economic opportunities.
It stated this at the official launch of the Lagos State Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy Roadmap, held at Onikan, Lagos.
Speaking at the event, Board Chairman of the Policy Innovation Centre, Udeme Ufot, praised the Lagos State Government for its leadership and commitment to advancing gender equality and economic inclusion through a bold, data-driven policy framework.
“Today’s event is not just a policy launch, but a significant milestone in our shared vision for a more inclusive, equitable and prosperous society,” Ufot said.
He noted that the event signalled the Lagos State Government’s clear commitment to creating an enabling environment where every woman can contribute fully and meaningfully to economic development.
Ufot emphasised that the roadmap was a product of deep consultation and collaborative engagement with diverse women across the state, including women with disabilities, market traders, young innovators, elderly women and leaders across the formal and informal sectors.
“This moment affirms what we have always believed at PIC. That transformative change is only possible when policy is rooted in reality, shaped by data, and driven by empathy,” he added.
The PIC played a facilitative role in the development of the roadmap, ensuring that it reflected the experiences and aspirations of women across Lagos.
Ufot applauded Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Cecilia Bolaji Dada and ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) as well as other stakeholders who contributed to the vision.
“The work ahead is significant, but it is also promising. At the PIC, we are ready to walk this journey with Lagos State, by offering continuous support to ensure this roadmap becomes a living, breathing instrument of progress,” he said.
The launch marks a pivotal step in aligning state-level development efforts with national and global gender empowerment goals, with implementation set to kick off immediately across sectors.
