Yahaya Bello denies link to APC chairmanship posters in Abuja

Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has dissociated himself from campaign posters circulating in Abuja suggesting his interest in contesting for the national chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The posters, which appeared in strategic parts of the Federal Capital Territory—particularly around the city gate and near the APC national secretariat—surfaced ahead of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for July 24.

In a statement on Thursday, Mr. Ohiare Michael, Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, described those responsible for the posters as “mischief makers,” insisting that Bello has not authorised any campaign or promotional activity concerning the APC leadership position.

“Nothing of such can emanate from Yahaya Bello, especially when there are laid down guidelines for the jostle for the chairmanship of the APC,” Ohiare stated.

He noted that this is not the first time individuals have acted without authorisation to associate Bello with political ambitions, accusing unnamed actors of attempting to mislead the public and stir unnecessary controversy.

“No one has been authorised, either directly or indirectly, to print, much less paste any poster on behalf of former Governor Yahaya Bello,” he said, warning the public against falling for what he called a “desperate bring-him-down-at-all-costs mission.”

Bello, who served two terms as governor, has yet to declare interest in any party leadership position following the abrupt exit of former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.
