Air Peace has announced a temporary suspension of flight operations in Lagos on Saturday, 12 July, in response to movement restrictions imposed by the Lagos State Police Command for the local government elections.

The airline said flights into and out of Lagos would be halted from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with services resuming at 4:00 p.m. the same day.

In a statement posted on its official X account, the airline cited the directive from the police as the reason for the disruption.

“There will be no scheduled flight operations into and out of Lagos on Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m,” the statement read.

The airline expressed regret over the inconvenience and assured passengers that regular operations would resume later that day.

The Lagos State Police Command had earlier confirmed the restriction of vehicular and waterway movement across the state during the election period.

Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh ordered the deployment of officers to ensure a secure and orderly process.

Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said the restriction would apply to all roads and waterways, and only essential service vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks would be exempt.

Hundeyin also clarified that accredited officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), election observers, and journalists with valid identification tags would be permitted to move during the restricted hours.

He warned that individuals found without proper accreditation near polling units would be subject to investigation and possible prosecution under the Electoral Act.

The police emphasized that armed escorts, sirens, and vehicles with covered number plates would not be allowed near polling or collation centres. The measures are part of broader efforts coordinated by the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to maintain public safety during the elections.
