After losing their first match 1-0 to Osun United in the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL) Super Eight playoff in Asaba, Warri Wolves FC rose to the challenge yesterday, beating Kun Khalifat FC of Owerri 3-0 to keep alive their hope of gaining promotion to the elite division.
The Coach Napoleon Aluma-led Warri Wolves lost 1-0 to Osun United in their first game at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, on the opening day of the playoff on Saturday.
Sensing that their step towards promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) was in danger, Warri Wolves approached yesterday’s match against the Owerri-based side differently.
Warri Wolves’ Ebhohon Jude’s brace gave the Seasiders a convincing 2-0 lead at halftime before they made it 3-0 in the second half. Speaking with The Guardian after the match, Coach Aluma expressed relief, saying that Warri Wolves would give their third match the seriousness that it deserves.
“Our target is the promotion ticket to the NPFL, and by God’s Grace, we will get it.”
Head Coach of Kun Khalifat FC, Obinna Uzoho, said that all hope is not lost yet for his team. The Owerri-based club had won their first match 1-0 against Crown FC on Saturday.
