Fulham have rejected a £21.5 million offer from Spanish club Atletico Madrid for Nigerian international Alex Iwobi, sources close to the Premier League club have confirmed.
According to Fulham-focused outlet, HammyEnd, the west London club were not anticipating the bid and remain unwilling to enter transfer talks for the 29-year-old midfielder, who is regarded as central to manager Marco Silva’s squad plans for the upcoming season.
“Fulham have turned down Atletico Madrid’s £21.5m offer for Nigerian international Alex Iwobi,” HammyEnd reported. “The Whites view their 29-year-old midfielder as a key part of Marco Silva’s plans and are not considering selling him at this point.”
The bid was first reported by Africa Foot, which noted that Atletico had submitted a formal offer and proposed a four-year contract worth around £115,000 per week. The Spanish club are reportedly restructuring their squad following a third-place finish in La Liga last season, and had identified Iwobi as a potential addition to strengthen their midfield.
Iwobi, who joined Fulham from Everton for £22 million in September 2023, has three years remaining on his current contract. He made 77 appearances for the club over two seasons, contributing 15 goals and eight assists in all competitions. In the 2024/25 Premier League campaign alone, he scored nine goals and provided six assists.
The Nigerian midfielder has also remained active at the international level, featuring for the Super Eagles in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria finished as runners-up. He currently has 80 caps and 10 goals for the national team.
Neither Fulham nor Iwobi has publicly commented on the rejected offer, but club sources indicate that there are no immediate plans to part with the player ahead of the new season.
