Hundreds of commuters plying the Sango-Eleyele Road in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, are stranded on Tuesday, occasioned by the protest embarked upon by students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.

It was gathered that the students embarked upon the protest as a result of the recent announcement made by Governor Seyi Makinde of the state to rename the institution.

It would be recalled that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State last week announced the renaming of the polytechnic as Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic.

Olunloyo was the first Ibadan person to serve as the governor of old Oyo State. He served between October and December 1983.

The students of the institution protested the renaming of the institution.

The students, in the early hours of Tuesday, blocked the entrance gates of the institution.

They also blocked the ever-busy Sango-Eleyele Road.

Many commuters, residents, and travellers plying the road were stranded. Some staff of the institution are also stranded as the majority of them were unable to gain access to the institution.
