Three masqueraders arraigned, remanded in Enugu

Three male masqueraders who were arrested by operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have been arraigned and reprimanded in the Nigerian Correctional Custodial Centre in the state.

The three masquerades were arrested for their involvement in the assault and infliction of bodily harm on members of the public under the guise of celebrating the Oriokpa Masquerade in Enugu.on July 22.

The three of them who were identified as Emeka Eze, Omeke Uchechukwu, and Malachi Michael were arrested after a video of them went viral. They were subsequently arraigned on three principal charges of conspiracy, demanding money with menaces, and causing grievous harm.

The spokesperson of the police command, Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement, revealed that their male victim was hospitalized after sustaining injuries.

“Recall that the male victim captured in the viral video of the incident, which occurred on June 22, 2025, along Aku Road in Nsukka, was hospitalized due to injuries sustained from the masqueraders’ attack.

“Subsequently, the three suspects were identified and arrested with the assistance of law-abiding members of the community, while others fled,” the statement read.

The case was adjourned to July 31, 2025, for further hearing.
