The Federal Government has expressed its commitment to ensuring the holistic implementation of the Nutrition 774 initiative, aimed at providing access to lifesaving nutrition interventions for Nigerian mothers and children.
Nutrition 774 Initiative is the first government-led intervention to combat malnutrition on a broader scale.

Speaking at the National Rollout Workshop of the Nutrition 774 Initiative on Tuesday in Abuja, the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, emphasised the need to develop clinical pathways that would translate into improved nutrition outcomes at national and sub-national levels.

Shettima, who was represented by the SSA to the President on Nutrition, Uju Rochas-Anwuka, urged critical stakeholders in the nutrition space to bring their expertise to bear for a robust output and align implementation strategies to ensure coordinated actions at both national and sub-national levels, with primary focus on local government areas.

The Vice President observed that Nutrition 774 is a call to decentralise solutions, deliver impact at the grassroots, and align all levels of government on a single, clear national agenda.

He said, “A lot of efforts have been underway, a meeting for the inauguration of the higher-level strategic board was just held last week. As we take a bold and coordinated step towards the full rollout of the Nutrition 774 Initiative across the country, the initiative is a rallying point for collective action, a movement to ensure that every child, every mother, and every community has access to the nutrition they need to survive”.

“Our success will depend not only on what we say here today but also on how we coordinate, implement, and hold ourselves accountable. We are building on lessons learned, leveraging existing platforms, and setting a new tone – one of urgency, collaboration, and measurable outcomes.”

Shettima noted that the workshop is critical as it brings together national stakeholders across MDAs, development partners, civil society, and technical experts to prepare for the cascading of this initiative to the states and ultimately to every ward and every household.

Earlier, the Director Social Development at the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Sanjo Faniran, observed that malnutrition mostly affects people at the grassroots, and this underpins the importance of the Nutrition 774 Initiative aimed at deploying multi-prong strategies to cascade nutrition interventions to all the 774 Local Government Areas [LGAs] in Nigeria with particular emphasis on improving maternal and child health across the divides

He noted that following a successful high-level dialogue held in February 2025, which also marked the official launch of the N774 Initiative, a series of stakeholder engagements has been conducted to ensure the holistic implementation of the Initiative.

Faniran stated that the workshop provides another platform to develop clinical pathways that will eventually translate into improved nutrition outcomes at the sub-national level.
