Afrobeats is taking over Latin America in a big way, and Nigerian stars Rema, Ayra Starr, and CKay are leading the charge.
Spotify released new data on Monday, September 22, 2025, showing the top five most-streamed Afrobeats artists in the region. Rema, Ayra Starr, and CKay claimed the top three spots, followed by global heavyweights Burna Boy and Wizkid.
The numbers reflect just how fast the genre is spreading across Latin America. Afrobeats streams have jumped by more than 180% year-on-year, with countries like Brazil recording a 500% increase since 2020. Argentina and Mexico are also seeing major growth, each with over 400% more streams in the last five years.
Industry experts point to two key reasons for this rise; the irresistible dance vibe of Afrobeats and smart cross-continental collaborations. Rema’s global hit Calm Down with Selena Gomez is one standout example. Ayra Starr also made history with Santana, a collaboration with Puerto Rican star Rauw Alejandro and producer Rvssian, which earned her the first-ever Latin Diamond certification from the RIAA for an Afrobeats act.
This surge is part of Spotify’s Afrobeats: Culture in Motion project, which highlights how the genre is doing more than topping charts, it’s connecting cultures. With deep African influences already embedded in Latin American music traditions, Afrobeats has found a natural home in the region.
For fans, mixes like AFROBEAT ALL TIME BEST (25, 24, 23), featuring Rema, Ayra Starr, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Fireboy DML, Asake, Tems, and Tyla, showcase the very artists driving this global wave.
