Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday launched a roadshow aimed at raising awareness of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which has now been devolved to all 62 electoral wards across the territory.

The initiative seeks to mobilise eligible voters and strengthen public participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.

The campaign was flagged off by INEC-FCT Administrative Secretary, Mrs Bimbo Oladunjoye, who represented the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Malam Aminu Kasimu Idris. Officials of the commission took to the streets to sensitise residents about the CVR exercise, highlighting key services available to registrants.

These include the collection and transfer of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), updating of voter information, replacement of lost or damaged PVCs, and details of the timelines for the exercise.

As part of efforts to ensure inclusivity and reach diverse communities, the sensitisation drive covered strategic locations across the FCT.

Traders, commuters, and other members of the public were engaged directly, with INEC staff communicating in multiple local languages to expand outreach. Flyers and other informational materials were distributed to reinforce the messages being shared.

REC Malam Aminu Kasimu Idris, at the close of the exercise, reiterated the commission’s commitment to bringing the CVR process closer to residents at the grassroots level.

He noted that devolution of the exercise to ward level would enhance both accessibility and efficiency, while also deepening citizens’ trust in the electoral process.

INEC emphasised that the awareness drive forms part of its broader voter education strategy aimed at fostering active participation in elections.
