The Northern Consumers Protection Association (NCPA) and the Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative (GMI) have lauded President Bola Tinubu for directing a Federal Executive Council (FEC) committee to fast-track measures aimed at reducing food prices nationwide.
In a joint statement signed by NCPA leader Ahmed Abubakar and GMI National Coordinator Samaila Musa, the groups described the directive as a timely and necessary intervention to ease the rising cost of living.
They noted that prioritizing the safe passage of farm produce across transport routes, as emphasized by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, was a commendable step toward stabilizing food prices.
“The rising cost of living has become a critical concern, affecting not only the purchasing power of citizens but also their overall quality of life. President Tinubu’s directive reflects a commitment to alleviating the hardships faced by many Nigerians,” the statement read.
The groups urged the FEC committee to act with urgency, engage all stakeholders in the agricultural value chain, and address the logistical challenges that inflate food costs.
They called for investment in infrastructure, technology-driven supply chain solutions, and partnerships that would ease the movement of goods from farms to markets.
Reaffirming their support for the government’s efforts, the associations pledged to continue advocating for consumer interests and work towards a more equitable and sustainable food system.
