The Balanced Woman Social Circle Initiative (BW) has marked its first anniversary with a call for women to take active roles in building the nation through strong homes, mentorship, and social participation.

The event, held at The Shepherd’s Flock Church in Ikeja with both physical and virtual attendance, was themed “The Role of Women in Nation Building.”

In her keynote address, the Convener of BW, Mrs. Joke Odumade, stressed the need to end systemic suppression of women’s voices under cultural and religious pretexts.
She said the initiative was established to inspire women who are “bold, balanced, and blooming” and to address challenges such as widowhood, motherhood, and the need for mentorship for young women.

Odumade emphasised that the family is the foundation of society and that homes built on respect and mutual responsibility contribute to reduced crime rates and national healing.

“This is why BW is more than a women’s group—it is a nation-building initiative,” she said, urging women to rise to the task of reshaping society through strong homes and partnerships.

Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mrs. Temilade Aruya, described the anniversary as a celebration of purpose and transformation, noting that BW has spent its first year equipping women to thrive in all areas of life.

“This conference is a bold declaration that women are not spectators in nation-building. We are strategists, nurturers, innovators, and stabilizers,” she said.
