Nigerian superstar Davido has revealed that he almost quit music before the release of his smash hit With You featuring Omah Lay.
The singer made the revelation in a recent interview that has since gone viral on social media.
According to Davido, he had been contemplating the quit from music after more than a decade in the industry, unsure of what direction his career would take next. However, the unexpected success of With You completely changed his perspective. The track, which appears on his 5ive album, became the most popular song on the project and a major turning point in his career.
“We thank God. Thirteen or fourteen years after, for me to have this kind of song, it’s rare. Some people get this kind of record at the beginning of their career, some in the middle. I was actually thinking of bowing out, and then God blessed me with this kind of song. It definitely gave me more life,” Davido shared.
The collaboration with Omah Lay has since grown into one of the biggest Afrobeats anthems of 2025. With You is currently the number one most streamed Nigerian song on Spotify this year. It has also been nominated for Song of the Year at the 2025 AFRIMA Awards, dominated the Official Nigeria Top 100 chart, and secured a top-five spot on the Billboard US Afrobeats chart.
For Davido, whose career spans over 14 years and includes multiple global hits, the success of With You is more than just another accolade, it is a reminder of resilience, timing, and the power of music to reignite purpose.
