The Oyo State government has announced plans to deploy 2,000 security operatives to ensure a hitch-free coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Chairman of the Coronation Planning Committee and former President General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Bayo Oyero, disclosed this during an interactive session with journalists at the Olubadan Palace, Oker-Aremo, Ibadan.

Oyero said the deployment of police, Civil Defence, and Amotekun personnel was necessary given the caliber of dignitaries expected at the event, including President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, lawmakers, traditional rulers, and other high-profile guests.
He stressed that the coronation transcends Ibadan, symbolizing Yoruba heritage, Nigerian culture, and African pride.

Oyero praised Governor Seyi Makinde for his support, noting that it was the first time a non-government official was chairing the coronation planning committee.

The weeklong programme begins on Tuesday, September 23, with a cultural fiesta at Olubadan Stadium, Iyaganku. A coronation lecture by Professor Toyin Falola will follow on Wednesday, September 24, at the University of Ibadan’s International Conference Centre.

A mega praise and worship concert is scheduled for Thursday, September 25, at Civic Centre, Idi-Ape, coinciding with Oba Ladoja’s 81st birthday celebration.

The grand coronation will take place on Friday, September 26, at Mapo Hall grounds. A thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday, September 28, at the Catholic Cathedral, Oke Padre, while a special Jumat service on Friday, October 3, at Ojaba Central Mosque will conclude the events.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Otunba Ademola Ojo, confirmed that the ceremonies would be broadcast live on state and national television, radio, and social media for Nigerians in the diaspora.

He added that Ibadan’s music industry would be showcased, with Fuji stars Saheed Osupa, Taye Currency, and other indigenous musicians set to entertain guests.
