Hundreds of Muslim clerics from across the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State on Thursday converged at Gidan Baban Liya, Kurna, in Fagge LGA to offer prayers for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the success of Deputy Senate President Dr. Barau Ibrahim Jibrin’s governorship bid in 2027.
The prayer session, organized under the auspices of the Tinubu/Barau/Ata (TBA) Movement, also sought divine favor for Barau to select the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, as his running mate to challenge incumbent Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The clerics said Ata, a former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly who hails from Fagge in Kano Central, the same senatorial district as Governor Yusuf, would bolster the APC’s chances of reclaiming Kano in 2027.
Speaking at the event, Sheikh Saminu Khalid Abdullahi (Sarkin Yaki Matasa), leader of the clerics, said the prayers and religious rites were meant to seek divine intervention for President Tinubu’s second-term bid and for Barau and Ata’s victory in the forthcoming governorship election.
“The TBA Movement is a grassroots platform mobilizing support for President Tinubu, Senator Barau Jibrin, and Hon. Yusuf Ata,” Sheikh Abdullahi said.
“This prayer session serves as the spiritual cornerstone for the official takeoff of the movement.”
Convener of the event, Hon. Seyi Olorunsola, emphasized that the gathering was aimed at securing God’s guidance and smooth political transition in 2027.
“We are here to pray for President Tinubu’s re-election and for Senator Barau Jibrin to become the next Governor of Kano State,” he said.
“This inaugural prayer session brings together Imams from all 44 LGAs to seek divine support for our leaders.”
Olorunsola praised the Tinubu administration’s efforts to tackle food scarcity, introduce student loans, and implement reforms aimed at improving governance and infrastructure.
“By our calculation, we want APC to win the 2027 presidential and governorship elections by the grace of God,” he added. “The choice of Hon. Ata from Kano Central is strategic in uniting the APC base and closing ranks ahead of the elections.”
