The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the devolution of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to the ward level across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
INEC said the new arrangement follows similar steps taken during recent off-cycle elections in Edo, Ondo, and Anambra states.
“Accordingly, the physical (in-person) registration currently taking place in the FCT office and the six Area Council offices of the Commission has been extended to all the 62 Wards, making a total of 69 centres,” INEC’s spokesperson, Sam Olumekun, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
INEC added that the new arrangement will begin on Monday, September 29, 2025, and run through Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
INEC also disclosed that online pre-registration in the FCT will be suspended starting Monday, September 15, 2025, to ensure all pre-registrants complete their registration physically at the designated centres.
The commission noted that online pre-registration alone will no longer be valid during this period.
In line with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022, INEC said voter registration will be suspended on October 8, 2025, at least 90 days before the election.
The registration process will resume after the election and continue until August 2026 before being suspended again ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC stated; “The FCT Area Council election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, 21st February 2026. The online and in-person registration will resume after the election and continue until August 2026 when the nationwide CVR will also be suspended ahead of the 2027 General Election as earlier announced by the Commission.”
INEC has published the full list and addresses of the 69 registration centres on its official website and other platforms for public information.
The commission urged all eligible citizens who have not registered to take advantage of the devolved registration exercise.
It added that registered voters may also transfer their registration within the FCT or from other states.
“Similarly, those who are already registered voters may transfer their registration to other parts of the FCT of their preference. However, no person should register more than once as double or multiple registration is a punishable offence under the law.” INEC warned.
The commission then called on all residents to note the dates and locations of the devolved CVR exercise and participate fully to ensure their eligibility for the upcoming elections.
