The D’BusinessDoctor (DBD) Mentorship Academy, in collaboration with KB Klub, College of Medicine, University of Lagos (UNILAG), has graduated a new cohort of young healthcare professionals trained to combine clinical excellence with business intelligence for the sustainability of the nation’s health sector.
The graduation ceremony, which was held in Lagos, marked the conclusion of a 12-week intensive programme designed to equip medical doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and other health workers with leadership, management, and entrepreneurial skills often missing from conventional medical training.
Founded by healthcare business consultant, Dr. Ademolu Owoyele, also known as D’BusinessDoctor, the academy was established to “open the eyes of young healthcare professionals to the business side of medicine” and inspire innovation in the country’s health system.
He expressed confidence in the resilience and creativity of the new graduates, saying their commitment to growth reflects the academy’s vision of raising professionals who not only heal but also build.
National Vice President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Benjamin Olowojebutu, congratulated the graduates and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to nurturing leaders who combine clinical excellence with business acumen to drive innovation and strengthen the nation’s health sector.
Since its inception in 2017 through Harley and Wall Healthcare and Business Consulting, in partnership with the NMA and the Association for General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, the academy has trained healthcare professionals to think strategically, lead effectively, and build sustainable enterprises.
Speaking at the ceremony, an investment banker and Director of Group Sales at Vetiva Asset Management, Mr. Biodun Oke, stressed the importance of financial intelligence, resilience, and entrepreneurial vision in improving health systems.
“Doctors and healthcare professionals must learn to think like business leaders if they want to transform the sector,” he said.
The graduating class, known as “DBD Trailblazers,” received certificates of completion, with Bolaji Ogunyade honoured with the Most Outstanding Leader Award for exceptional dedication and initiative.
One of the graduates, Amari Moyinoluwa, described the mentorship as a transformative experience, explaining that it challenged her to think bigger, work smarter, and step outside her comfort zone.
