A two-time AFCON winner, Samuel Eto has been slammed with corruption charges by a coalition of Cameroonian football officials.
According to goal.com, a coalition formed by a group of Cameroonian football officials led by a lawyer by the name of Emmanuel Nsahlai, have filed a series of lawsuits or charges against the two-time AFCON winner, Samuel Eto’o, for corruption, electoral malpractices and many more as the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation.
A series of coordinated legal complaints have placed Samuel Eto’o and the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) under intense scrutiny, with allegations of corruption, financial mismanagement, and conflicts of interest threatening the credibility of Cameroonian football.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, a coalition of Cameroonian players represented by international lawyer Emmanuel Nsahlai has filed lawsuits against FECAFOOT and several official bodies, seeking accountability for what they describe as deep-rooted governance failures.

Key Allegations againt Samuel Eto’o
The complaints outline a troubling record of ethical and administrative violations, including:
- Eto’o’s 22-month suspended prison sentence in Spain (2022) for tax fraud.
 - A six-month FIFA ban for misconduct.
 - An ongoing U.S. probe into wire fraud involving missing funds.
 - Allegations of corruption, match-fixing, and bribery linked to a betting company.
 - Reports of $1.5 million mismanaged from friendly matches against Mexico, Russia, and South Korea.

Critics argue FECAFOOT has created a hostile environment for dissent, pointing to the controversial 10-year suspension of executive member Guibai Gatama and alleged manipulation of internal rules to prevent independent candidates from running in elections. These actions, they warn, raise serious concerns about transparency, fairness, and representation within the federation.
Despite the damaging accusations, Nsahlai emphasised that the lawsuits are not an attack on Eto’o’s legendary playing career with clubs like Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea, which he described as “untouchable.” Instead, the legal push is aimed at rescuing Cameroonian football governance and restoring integrity, accountability, and fair play at the heart of the sport.
