Suspected bandits have killed one person and abducted an unspecified number of people in Dantankari community, Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The incident which occurred on Wednesday night also resulted in about half a dozen persons sustaining various degrees of injuries.
Eyewitnesses said several of the residents were sitting outside their homes and chatting with friends and relations when the attack occurred.
One of the eyewitnesses, who asked not to be named, said, “The bandits attacked while people were sitting outside chatting. Suddenly, we heard sporadic gunshots coming from various directions.
“They killed one person, injured five, and abducted many others,” even as he lamented that no help came from security operatives, even though efforts were made to contact them.
Another source stated that the bandits abducted several individuals, including women and children, but the actual number will only be known when residents are informed of missing family members.
The incident comes less than two weeks after bandits in their numbers stormed Unguwan Mantau community in Malumfashi council area, where they killed more than 30 people, most of whom were worshippers in a mosque.
The bandits also abducted over 80 persons that included women and children, but about 79 of them were rescued the next day through the collaborative effort of military and air force operatives.
The Malumfashi incident compelled the state governor, Dr Dikko Radda, to return from his three-week medical leave abroad, during which he visited the community, pledging financial and infrastructure assistance.
As at the time of this report, the spokesperson for the police command in the state, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, was yet to respond to an inquiry on the incident.
