Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on citizens and residents of the State to remain united, peaceful, and committed to building a greater and more prosperous state.
Oborevwori made the call on Wednesday during the celebration of the State’s 34th anniversary with a special thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel, Asaba.
At the event, marking over three decades since the state’s creation on August 27, 1991, Governor Oborevwori, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, expressed deep gratitude to God for what he described as 34 years of “resilience, progress and unity.”
“This celebration is not just a tradition but a declaration of our gratitude for how far we’ve come as a people. We owe thanks to our founding fathers, past leaders, civil servants, and citizens whose dedication built Delta into a symbol of diversity, academic excellence, and human capital development,” the governor said.
He stressed the importance of unity, calling it the “bedrock” of the state’s progress, and highlighted diversity as one of Delta’s greatest strengths.
“I therefore call on all Deltans to continue to promote peace, fairness, and brotherhood. Thanksgiving unlocks divine blessings. As we celebrate 34 years of Delta, we dedicate our future to God, trusting Him for prosperity, peace, and progress,” Oborevwori added, quoting Psalm 107:1.
The governor also thanked Deltans for their continued trust and support, noting that the mandate given to him in 2023 remains a driving force behind his administration’s commitment to delivering more under the “MORE Agenda.”
In his sermon, titled “Forget Not All His Benefits,” the Chaplain of Government House Chapel, Venerable Charles Osemenam, urged Deltans to reflect on the blessings the state has enjoyed, including peace, development, and purposeful leadership.
“Thanksgiving attracts more blessings,” he said, urging the public to remain prayerful and supportive of Governor Oborevwori’s administration. He described Delta as a state rich in sports, education, infrastructure, oil resources, and more.
