The Kaduna State Government has urged residents to remain calm following Tuesday’s Abuja–Kaduna train derailment, which caused panic among passengers and their families.

The passenger train, which departed Abuja around 11 a.m., derailed along its corridor en route to Kaduna.

In a statement issued in Kaduna, the Commissioner-Designate for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, said Governor Uba Sani immediately directed the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Ministry of Local Government Affairs to mobilise for the evacuation, profiling, and treatment of victims.

Maiyaki explained that SEMA was tasked with rescuing stranded passengers, providing emergency assistance, and ensuring that injured persons received prompt medical care.

“The Governor has instructed that every necessary support be extended to passengers to minimise the impact of this unfortunate incident. Injured persons are to be treated without delay, while emergency psycho-social and medical support is being provided to affected victims,” the statement read.

The government further assured that the situation was under control, urging residents to go about their normal activities.

Sani, according to the statement, sympathised with the passengers and their families, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the safety and well-being of residents and visitors in the state.

Maiyaki added that investigations were ongoing to determine the immediate cause of the derailment, noting that the state government was closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with federal authorities and security agencies.
