.To launch 10,000 hectares farm estate, raise one million members
Two indigenous agricultural-minded organisations – Wiifarm Cooperative Society and the Factory Company, are collaborating to transform Nigeria’s agricultural sector through farmland ownership model and creating good hub.
The innovative ideas were revealed at the official launch of the first rice distribution service hub and unveiling of a fractional farmland ownership model on an expanse of land covering about 10,000 hectares, which targets not less than one million members across the country.
Speaking recently at the launch in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Capital, the President, Wiifarm Cooperative Society, Akhibi Onoke Akhibi said Wiifarm is more than a cooperative, describing it “as a people- powered movement to reclaim our land, unlock rural wealth and build a technology and cooperative.”
According to him, the multipurpose farm was designed to anchor The Factory Company’s backwards integration strategy, connecting farm production directly to food processing and distribution.
He said, “The Wiifarm Multipurpose Farm Estate projects 10,000 hectares agricultural development master plan across Akwa Ibom State, is set to cultivate rice, maize, poultry, beef and fish.”
He added that the project would be powered by full mechanisation, GPS-based land mapping, precision agriculture and international agronomic partnership.
Akhibi further revealed that Wiifarm Cooperative is “targeting one million members nationwide through its grassroots campaign with tools, training and referral income opportunities built into its digital platform.
“We are turning villages into economic hubs. This is not just farming. This is a movement”. He added.
Also speaking, the Akwa Ibom State coordinator, Madam Bertilla Nlewedim, said that “WiiFarmCoop has provided a platform for Nigerians to participate directly and benefit from the country’s agricultural economy rather than just being mere onlookers.
The opportunity to own fractional units in commercial farms and earn generational wealth is indeed revolutionary.”
At the event was also the public unveiling of Seeds of Prosperity: Reviving Africa Through Agricultural Cooperatives, authored by Akhibi.
