Prolific Nigerian singer-songwriter, Brymo, has publicly called out some of the nation’s biggest music stars, including Burna Boy and Davido, urging them to cease their frequent participation in remixes of hit songs, particularly those released by emerging artistes.

Brymo aired his views on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, via a post on his Instagram status, which quickly garnered attention across social media.

In his candid message, Brymo directly addressed “Nigerian mainstream ‘A-listers’,” stating, “Burna, Davido, and Co., stop jumping on every hit song in a remix, especially releases by newer acts… let other artistes find their own way.”

He further criticized the perceived motivation behind such collaborations, adding, “the pretending to be helping them reach higher is a ridiculous watch… stop seeking relevance in the efforts of ones who know little about the business… it’s vile!!”

Brymo’s statement suggests a concern for the independent growth and development of newer musical talents in the industry. He implies that the pervasive remix culture, while seemingly supportive, might be stifling the organic trajectory of burgeoning careers or serving as a means for established acts to maintain visibility rather than genuinely uplift emerging ones.

The comments have sparked a debate among music enthusiasts and industry stakeholders regarding the ethics and impact of remixes on the Nigerian music scene, particularly concerning the dynamics between established and rising stars. As of now, neither Burna Boy nor Davido, nor their representatives, have publicly responded to the remarks of Brymo.

Brymo, known for his distinctive sound and outspoken views on industry matters, has consistently advocated for artistic independence and fair practices within the music ecosystem. His latest admonition adds to his history of challenging conventional norms in the Nigerian entertainment landscape.
