Human rights and anti-corruption advocate, Ibrahim Garba Wala, widely known as IG Wala, has declared for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as he unveiled a new political platform, The Handshake Movement (THM), in Abuja on Thursday.

Wala, who has long been associated with civic activism, described the initiative as a call for unity and collective action to redirect Nigeria’s political journey. He urged citizens of all ages to “join hands” with the movement to build a more inclusive future for the country.

According to him, Nigeria’s problems have been compounded by a culture of blame, which has distracted from genuine nation-building. He explained that THM would instead focus on strengthening institutions and platforms rather than idolising political personalities.

“The time has come for Nigerians to stop attaching faces to platforms and to build systems that endure,” he said, stressing that political power should be reclaimed by the people rather than entrusted to individuals prone to misuse it.

Wala added that his commitment was to hold leaders accountable to constitutional values, while fostering dialogue rooted in empathy, respect, and responsibility. He pledged to engage without rancour, focusing on correcting flaws in governance without personal attacks.

Declaring that Nigeria needed “a new dawn,” he described THM as a platform of hope, trust, and shared responsibility. He called on citizens to embrace what he termed “the handshake,” a metaphor for solidarity and mutual understanding.

“The Handshake Movement is not just about politics; it is about building bridges of trust and progress. I invite every Nigerian to take part in this collective journey,” he stated, affirming his support for the ADC in the run-up to the 2027 general elections.
