D’Tigress moves to top 10 in latest FIBA ranking

Nigeria’s D’Tigress have been ranked the 8th best women’s basketball team in the world following the latest FIBA Women’s ranking.

D’Tigress occupy the eighth position in the ranking released by FIBA on Thursday, August 14, 2025, after they won the Women’s AfroBasket title a record seven times. The West African giants clinched their most recent title in 2025, defeating Mali in the finals, which was hosted in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

This victory also means Nigeria have qualified for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup. Great Britain dropped two places to 22nd while Belgium reached the top five following their victory at the Euro Basket Women.

South Sudan is the biggest climber as it jumped 31 spots to 55th, while the USA retains its number one spot in the latest FIBA ranking. Russia, France, and China occupy the second to fourth place, respectively. Spain and Canada are in sixth and seventh place while Brazil and Serbia complete the top 10 teams in the world.
