The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Moshood Oluhundare Jimoh, yesterday paraded about 68 criminal suspects arrested for various offences, including murder, cultism, kidnapping, rape, armed robbery, and ‘one chance’ robbery.
The suspects were apprehended at different locations across the state. Some were allegedly involved in advanced fee fraud, car snatching, and cases where they were entrusted with vehicles but absconded, dismantled the cars, and sold the parts to spare parts dealers.
The command has so far recovered four vehicles, including a Mercedes-Benz E350 worth millions of naira.
“Additionally, 17 assorted firearms, such as English pistols, Beretta pistols, and AK 49 assault rifles, were recovered, along with various phones, laptops, and other incriminating items. These successes were the result of coordinated and well-planned operations by our various squads.
“Credit goes to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for supporting the command and making policing in Lagos State easier. The IGP not only provides the necessary equipment and logistics but also supervises to ensure that we are effective in our efforts to maintain peace in Lagos,” Jimoh said.
The Commissioner highlighted the preventive strategies adopted by the command to combat crime in the state.
Continuing, he added, “When I came on board about six months ago, I did promise that varying crime-fighting strategies would be adopted to outwit the men of the underworld. And I make bold to say that all the strategies are working, and Lagosians are going about their lawful businesses without fear.’’
