The Baptist Academy Old Students’ Association (BAOSA) has announced a programme of nationwide and international activities to mark the school’s 170th anniversary, with events scheduled in Lagos, Abuja, London, and Houston.
BAOSA President, Olumide Ajomale, speaking at a press conference in Lagos, said the celebrations, themed “Legacy, Excellence, and Community,” will run from August through October 2025. He noted that the anniversary will include spiritual, educational, cultural, and philanthropic events intended to reconnect alumni and engage the wider community.
The programme will begin on August 19 with a tree-planting ceremony at the school. In September, homecoming activities will include dormitory experiences, inter-set football matches, and a medical outreach. From September to December, a historical exhibition will display photographs, artefacts, and narratives chronicling the school’s history.
On October 15, the school will host an anniversary lecture on its contributions to nation-building. Other events will include a “Back to Cradle” visit to the First Baptist Church and the school’s original Broad Street site, as well as a reunion dinner and awards night where 170 alumni will be recognised for achievements and service.
Ajomale said the anniversary is an opportunity “to honour that legacy and chart a fresh course for the future,” adding that the celebrations will serve as a platform to mobilise support for the Baptist Academy Infrastructure Development Fund (BIDF), aimed at renovating facilities and expanding learning resources.
He acknowledged the contributions of the BAOSA Board of Trustees, patrons, National Executive Council, the anniversary planning committee led by Dr. Oyeyemi Onifade, the Nigeria Baptist Convention, Baptist Mission Schools, Shepherdhill Baptist Church, the school’s principal and staff, class set leaders, and the Joseph Harden Club.
Ajomale called on alumni, corporate partners, and members of the public to support the anniversary activities and the BIDF, stating: “This is a time to recommit ourselves not just to celebrate where we’ve come from, but to invest in where we’re going.”
