Gboyega Akosile, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has stated that Yoruba people don’t tolerate bad behaviour.

Akosile made this statement in a post on X amid criticisms of the airport display by Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1.

While many believe KWAM 1 deserves some punishment for attempting to stop an aircraft at the airport by standing in front of it, others believe he will receive a lenient punishment due to his close association with President Bola Tinubu.

Some have placed an ethnic colouration on the matter, especially after the Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, shared the musician’s apology, which she captioned, “KWAM 1’s apology on the airport incident. To err is human.”

Reacting to Dabiri-Erewa’s post, an X user, @TaiwoDanjuma, said, “From a government official, this sounds less like forgiveness and more like endorsement of VIP impunity.” Others felt the NiDCOM boss won’t have pleaded on KWAM 1’s behalf if he wasn’t a Yoruba person like her.

However, Sanwo-Olu’s aide is of the opinion that KWAM 1 received more criticism from Yoruba people for his action at the airport than from any other quarters.

He shared on X, “Sometimes we shouldn’t be afraid of controversy! Now is such a good example. The man in the eye of the storm is Yoruba, an APC member, a cheerleader and perhaps, the favourite artiste of Mr. President! But he’s received severe criticisms and public condemnation for his indiscretion from mostly Yoruba folks, both on this App and in several other groups that I belong to. This event, like some others in past, made me conclude that Yoruba people don’t tolerate bad behaviour.

“Let’s jointly speak out against bad behaviour, not cherry-picking based on tribe, religion, gender or political affiliations. Let’s rise tribal and primordial sentiments on issues of national importance.

“Mark my words, something in this shape will happen to some people’s favourites, and when this Govt acts in the same manner, some people will describe it as a political witch hunt!”
