The Okeyimi Health Centre in Ado Ekiti, the Ondo State capital, has been thrown into fear and confusion as a day-old baby reportedly went missing.
According to an eyewitness account, the baby’s disappearance was noticed when the nurses on duty wanted to cater for her in the morning.
The development was said to have thrown the mother and the family of the baby, as well as patients and staff of the hospital, into confusion and despair.
Members of staff in the ward, the mother of the baby, a security guard and other suspects were said to have been taken to the police station for further interrogation.
Efforts to speak with the hospital’s management proved unsuccessful at the time of filing the report.
Meanwhile, the Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the incident. It said that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Speaking on the incident in a chat with newsmen, the police spokesman, SP Abutu Sunday, said that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, has directed the state police CID to commence an investigation into the matter.
“The CP has directed the State CID to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the recovery of the baby.
