Nigeria’s D’Tigress defeated a hard-fighting Senegal to reach the final of the 2025 Afrobasket on Saturday. The Nigerian team won 75-68 in a keenly contested game at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
D’Tigress narrowly won the first quarter, 22–17, in a fast-paced and closely fought contest. Nigeria maintained momentum, edging the second quarter 21–20, despite Senegal’s resilient and aggressive display.
D’Tigress faced a challenging moment in the third quarter, allowing Senegal to take control with an impressive 21-9 turnaround that shifted the game’s momentum. Senegal surged ahead, leading 68-62 with just seven minutes remaining, turning the match into a fierce battle for a spot in the final.
However, Nigeria’s fighting spirit shone through as they rallied remarkably, finishing the game with a stunning 23-10 run in the final quarter to secure a 75-68 victory.
D’Tigress advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket with a commanding 83-47 win over Cameroon on Thursday night.
With this success, Nigeria, along with three other African teams that reached the semifinals, has booked their places in the qualifying tournaments for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, set to take place in March. Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Sudan will join a group of 24 national teams competing in the World Cup qualifying tournaments.
