Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has responded to claims made by social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), regarding their past interactions.
The exchange, which gained traction online, began after VeryDarkMan addressed a long-standing public perception that Davido had sponsored his hotel and flight during their linkup in Lagos. In a viral video, VDM clarified that he received no financial support from the singer, stating that the assumption has often been used to discredit his views, particularly when they diverge from the popular fan narrative about Davido.
“I never collected money for hotel or flight,” VDM said, urging the public to stop using the narrative as a weapon against him.
In a brief but notable reaction, Davido responded via a now-deleted Instagram comment. He wrote:
“VDM, if you like, abuse my whole life; I no fit fight you.”
VDM then replied publicly, maintaining that his statements were not meant as insults but as an effort to clarify the facts. “@davido SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT. If you see it as an insult, the aluta continua. Love always from my end (I no be anybody’s boy still)! RATEL,” he wrote.
The civil tone of the exchange has drawn mixed reactions on social media, with fans praising both figures for addressing the matter without escalating tensions.
