Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, on Thursday defeated Cameroon 83–47 to advance to the semifinals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The quarterfinal match, played at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, saw Nigeria establish a 41–29 lead at halftime before extending their advantage in the second half. The result sets up a semifinal clash against Senegal.
Amy Okonkwo led Nigeria’s scoring with 18 points, six rebounds, and one assist. Nicole Enabosi and Victoria Macaulay each contributed 12 points, while Elizabeth Balogun added 11.
Team captain Sarah Ogoke returned to the court after missing the group stage. She scored an early three-pointer that helped lift the team’s momentum.
Speaking after the game, head coach Rena Wakama commended her team’s effort. “I’m proud of the discipline and execution shown at both ends of the floor,” she said.
All 12 players on Nigeria’s roster featured in the match and registered points.
D’Tigress have now qualified for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament by reaching the last four of AfroBasket.
Nigeria topped Group D with wins over Rwanda and Mozambique to secure a direct place in the quarterfinals. Cameroon advanced to the last eight after a playoff win against Angola.
Nigeria and Senegal will meet in the semifinals as both teams continue their campaigns for continental honours.
