The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s candidature by the PDP government in Osun State.

In the same breath, the opposition party faulted the action of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and prominent members of the PDP who recently left the party to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, recently declared the decision of the PDP stakeholders in the state to support President Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 ahead of the state governorship election.

Addressing a press conference Thursday in Kano, the PDP Chairman in the state, Alh. Yusuf Ado Kibiya considered the PDP’s decision in Osun to be a gross disregard for the party’s constitution, which should be discouraged.

Fielding a question on whether the party has a similar plan to toll the line of their Osun State counterpart, Kibiya insisted that the PDP in Kano would not subject its conscience to ridicule.

He reaffirmed the strong commitment of members and stakeholders to the PDP ideal in Kano, just as he vowed to resist any attempt to undermine the party in the state.

The party chairman categorically described top PDP members who recently decamped to ADC as selfish individuals who are more interested in personal interests rather than serving the public.

Kibiya, who considered the former PDP chieftains as betrayals of trust, regretted that the majority of the coalition ADC members had ‘shamelessly’ departed ways with the party that brought them to the limelight.

“We emphasise our steadfast dedication to fostering unity within the PDP. As a party founded on the principles of democracy, justice and inclusiveness, we remain committed to uniting all party members across the state.

Although the PDP will remain intact with or without those who decamped to join the ADC, the challenge we face with those leaving is how they departed. You can leave the PDP without creating a problem.

“You will notice that the majority of those leaving us are those who have gotten everything they have through the PDP. Regrettably, after benefiting from everything, it is now time to condemn the party simply because they want to join ADC, that is the height of betrayal,” Kibiya added.

Regarding the political situation in Kano, the PDP leader questioned the fiscal responsibility of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, specifically concerning health, education, infrastructure, and social wellbeing of the residents.

Kibiya challenged the NNPP administration to explain its budgetary allocation and performance for public assessment, and was quick to accuse Governor Yusuf of running the affairs of the state as a personal business.
