Passengers escape death as truck rams vehicles in Benin

An articulated truck on Wednesday reportedly crashed into five vehicles near Ikpoba River in Benin City, Edo State capital, injuring at least six persons.

It was gathered that the truck was heading towards the Agbor axis of the road on Tuesday evening when its driver lost concentration and, in the process, rammed into other vehicles ahead of him.

A witness who identified himself simply as Nosayaba said a white colour passenger mini bus plunged into Ikpoba river as a result of the impact of the accident.

He added, “Some other persons involved in the accident escaped unhurt.”

The Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Edo State, Cyril Mathew, who confirmed the accident, said no lives were lost in the crash.

Cyril stated that the injured individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment while operatives of Esigie police station removed the vehicles.

Cyril explained that “the accident involved six vehicles, including the truck. 26 persons were involved, 11 male adults and 15 female adults.

“Six persons were injured- four male and two female. No life was lost.”
