The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Oyo State Directorate, on Thursday called for closer collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Chapter, as part of efforts to enhance national reorientation and civic engagement.
The State Director of NOA, Mrs. Ajolayo Sinmiat Akande, made the call during a courtesy visit paid by the NOA team to the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
She emphasised the agency’s mandate to educate, sensitise, and mobilise citizens around government policies, national values, and civic responsibility, adding that the media remains a vital partner in achieving these goals.
“It becomes imperative to collaborate with your organisations to fast-track Nigeria’s progress. We believe that a stronger working synergy with the NUJ will help promote our values, culture, and national essence,” Akande said.
In his response, the Chairman of the NUJ Oyo State Chapter, Alhaji Ademola Babalola, warmly welcomed the NOA delegation, congratulating Mrs. Akande on her appointment and expressing appreciation that the NUJ was her first official port of call.
“You’ve climbed the ladder of service, and it is clear that God has positioned you for greater things. We are honoured that the NUJ is your first port of call,” Babalola said, pledging the union’s full support for NOA’s public enlightenment mandate.
The NUJ chairman also reflected on the agency’s past partnerships with former NOA leaders. He described the NOA as a key institution for fostering national unity and citizen participation, especially through initiatives such as MAPSA.
Accompanying the NOA state director on the visit were senior officials, including Mrs. Oluwaseyi Omotayo (Deputy Director, Community Outreach and Development), Mr. Babatunde Ogundipe (Deputy Director, Health and Social Care), Dr. (Mrs.) Ruth Awosanmi (Deputy Director, Human Resource Management), Mr. Stephen Odeleye (Chief Accountant), and Miss Oyindamola Olaosebikan (Media and Communications Officer). The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from both organisations to collaborate towards a more informed and united society.
