

Former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is reportedly set for a return to the Premier League to join newly promoted side Sunderland ahead of the 2025/26 football season.
Several news outlets confirmed the story of the midfielder leaving Bayer Leverkusen on Monday, July 28, 2025. According to the reports, the German club are willing to let go of Granit Xhaka despite having three years left on his current contract.
Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his official social media account that Sunderland have agreed to pay £20 million for the midfielder. Xhaka has also agreed to a three-year deal which will see him remain with the Saints at least until the summer of 2028.
The Swiss international left Arsenal during the 2023 summer transfer window to join Bayer Leverkusen winning the Bundesliga title by knocking off Bayern Munich. He was instrumental to Xabi Alonso during the 2023/24 Bundesliga season which saw them win the league that season.
