Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Monday described the triumphant Super Falcons as “inspirations and role models” to young girls across the country and the African continent.
Speaking at a presidential reception held in their honour at the State House, Abuja, following their record-breaking 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title win in Morocco, the First Lady commended the players for their passion, courage, and unwavering determination.
“Your victory was not just about winning a trophy; it was a resounding testament to resilience, teamwork, and an unshakable belief in yourselves,” Mrs. Tinubu said.
“You played with confidence and conviction, and reminded the world why Nigeria continues to be a dominant force in African women’s football.”
She noted that the Super Falcons had inspired a new generation of girls by showing them what is possible through hard work, discipline, and perseverance.
“You are role models to our young girls, not just in Nigeria but across Africa. You’ve shown them that with courage and consistency, they too can rise to greatness,” the First Lady added.
Mrs. Tinubu also expressed appreciation to the coaching crew, technical staff, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the National Sports Commission, and the families of the players for their invaluable support.
She lauded the Nigerian fans whose passionate backing, she said, served as a driving force behind the team’s triumph.
“This victory belongs to all of us. I thank God for this remarkable feat and pray that He continues to strengthen and bless each and every one of you,” she said.
The First Lady further commended President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to sports development and the welfare of Nigerian athletes.
“Your support has created an enabling environment for success, and we are grateful,” she said.
As the team basks in their latest continental glory, the First Lady urged them to see their victory as a stepping stone to even greater achievements on the global stage.
“Nigeria believes in you. The future of women’s football in this country is bright, and you are leading the charge. Welcome home, our beautiful champions,” she concluded.
The reception, hosted by President Tinubu, featured the symbolic presentation of the WAFCON trophy to the President and the First Lady by team captain Rasheedat Ajibade and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, amidst applause and celebration.
