Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Monday received a major political endorsement as former Governor Ayodele Fayose declared support for his re-election bid.
Fayose, a chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the announcement during an All Progressives Congress (APC) event held at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado Ekiti. Despite belonging to a rival party, Fayose said Oyebanji’s performance in office has earned him cross-party support.
“I want to publicly endorse Governor Abayomi Oyebanji and his deputy for a second term,” Fayose stated, adding that political differences should not override the need for good governance.
The endorsement was made in the presence of APC leaders, former Ekiti governors, and National Assembly members. Fayose also used the platform to call on all Ekiti citizens to rally behind the Oyebanji administration in the next governorship election.
He, however, clarified that he has not defected from the PDP. “I remain in my party, but when we see good governance, we must say it,” he said.
Governor Oyebanji has yet to formally declare his re-election bid, but Monday’s public backing from a key opposition figure signals the beginning of political alignments ahead of the next poll.
