President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Dr. Leon Usigbe, a veteran journalist with The Nigerian Tribune and a respected member of the State House Press Corps.

In a condolence statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President paid glowing tribute to Dr. Usigbe, describing him as a thoroughbred professional whose journalism was marked by integrity, balance, and an unwavering commitment to the public good.

“Dr. Leon Usigbe was a quintessential reporter, calm, principled, and deeply committed to the ethics of his profession. As a longstanding State House Correspondent, his reports were not only insightful but also helped bridge the gap between government and citizens,” the President noted.

President Tinubu acknowledged the late journalist’s contributions to deepening Nigeria’s democratic experience by providing the public with accurate and timely information on the workings of the presidency and governance in general.

“He was a dependable figure within the State House Press Corps whose professionalism earned him the respect of his colleagues, public officials, and readers across the country. His death is a painful loss to journalism and to the nation,” the President said.

Offering his condolences, Tinubu stated: “I extend my heartfelt sympathies to his immediate family, his colleagues at The Tribune, members of the State House Press Corps, and the wider media community. May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and comfort all those who mourn this great loss.”

Dr. Usigbe, until his passing, served as the Bureau Chief of The Nigerian Tribune in Abuja. He was known for his calm disposition, depth of knowledge, and exemplary work ethic that spanned decades in political reporting.
